Montana Invasive Species Advisory Council

On Dec. 4, 2014 Bryce Christiaens of the Missoula County Weed District excitedly witnessed Governor Steve Bullock sign the Montana Invasive Species Advisory Council into creation. As you can see in this video, he was dressed as an Asian Longhorned Beetle! Christiaens has been working with Gov. Bullock’s office and Department of Natural Resources and Conservation to help mitigate the impacts by the invasion of an increasing number of harmful, nonnative species.

The MISC will be working to protect Montana’s diverse ecosystems by monitoring, controlling and preventing invasive species from current and potential infestations. Infestations can cause damage to the state’s natural and economic resources. Because of these invasions have the potential to be so destructive, the Council is focused on generating public understanding of the prevention and management of invasive species.

MISC is made up of 21 members, including representatives from tribal governments, county weed districts, the MSU extensions, conservation districts, conservation organizations, private land owners, natural resource groups, private industry and representatives from state and federal stakeholder agencies.

Congratulations to the Missoula County Weed District for working with the State to create a great new council!
